General FAQs
Ques- What is Solar PV (Photovoltaic) system & how does it work?
Photovoltaic (PV) panels produce direct current (DC) electricity when exposed to sunlight. The panels. also called modules, are a series of PV Cells laid between a backing plate & protective glass with the whole thing enclosed by an aluminum frame. A series of panels connected together is known as an array.
Solar Panels/ Modules consist of a group of small semiconductor material. When the sun’s light falls on the modules, it excites the electrons, thereby creating direct current(DC).
Ques- What are the main components of Solar Power System?
Solar Modules & inverters are the main components of a Solar Power System & the constitute70% of the project cost.
Ques- What are the things I should think about if I am planning to get Solar Power System?
If you are planning to Install a Solar Power Plant below are some things to consider:
- What are your energy demands? How do you consume the power?
- What is the availability of the shadow free area in your building?
- What is the business model you find more commercially viable( CAPEX or RESCO/ PPA)
- What would be the saving if you go for Solar?
Ques- Which Solar PV System is suitable for your project?
There are various factors involved in choosing your PV System. You might want to research on them before selecting the appropriate model-
- Energy Consumption Pattern
- Power Cuts or Outages
- Various Govt. Policies like Net Metering, Grid Power Assess or Subsidies on Solar Power Palnt.
Ques- What are the Models available in Solar Market?
- CAPEX- that is Client Investment Models, it would be more beneficial than non investment model.
- RESCO/ OPEX/ PPA – Its totally Client’s non investment models.
OnSite / Offsite
Ques- What is the difference between CAPEX or RESCO / PPA/ OPEX Model?
CAPEX Model – In this model, Client owns the Solar Power Plant & can claim the accelerated depreciation.
RESCO/ PPA / OPEX Model- In this Model, the investor owns the asset (plant). The Consumer & the Producer enters a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) for a decided duration of time which is typically 15- 25 years lock in time period. During the tenure of PPA, the consumer pays the producer for the power generated at a decided tariff. After the PPA terminates, the asset is transferred to the consumer. We set uo ON SITE/ OFF –SITE Solar Power Plant ( on rooftops, as Carports , on grounds, or on superstructures). These plants integrate seamlessly with the Clients existing grid &/ or DG System.
Ques- What guarantees will I receive?
The Solar PV Panels come with 25years performance based warranty.
Ques- Will a Solar Plant meet 100% of my power requirement?
A Solar Plant typically meets 60%-65% of your total energy requirement. How ever, this depends on the space available to set up the plant.
Ques- What is a “ grid- tied” PV System?
Connect your Solar System directly into the utility grid.
Ques- What is the size of Solar Power System should I install?
It depends on how much physical un-shaded space you have on your roof as well as how much energy you want to produce to offset what you consume. Using your current electricity bill you can calculate on your average daily consumption & the average amount of electricity your solar power system needs to produce to offset your electricity needs.
Ques- What can affect the amount of Solar Energy received?
The strength of the Solar Energy (radiation) available depends on the time of year, the time of day & the latitude of the generation point. The amount of energy generated can be further affected by the amount of dust & water vapour in the air, the amount of cloud cover & any shading of the solar panels & the quality of the solar modules.
Ques- What happens at night or when its cloudy?
A Solar System can only produce electricity if there is sunlight. That means solar can produce electricity on cloudy days when small amounts of sunlight are still shinning down onto a rooftop. However, at night when there is no sunlight your solar system will not generate any electricity.
Ques- How much roof space is needed?
This would depends on various factors such as shading free area available, direction of the roof etc, however as a thumb rule, the following be a good approximate- 1kW plant requires 12sq mtrs. Of shade free area.
Ques- How much electricity does a PV System generates?
For every 1KW peak PV System installed on South Facing roof, the system will generate 5-6 units per day. However, the energy generation depends upon the weather condition & reduces by around 20% for an East or West facing roof.
Ques- How much energy will be generated from 1kw Solar Power Plant?
On an average, energy 1Kwp setup produces 1400 to 1500 units in a year. This may however, vary based upon the location of the plant, seasonal factors, surroundings & shadow free areas.
Ques- Can I remove my Grid Connection?
No its a substitute of electricity not a complete replace of grid. The plant will generate electricity only during day time so during night the electricity has to be sourced from the Grid. Secondly, Solar electricity will meet only a 60% to 70% of your requirement the remainder of which has to be met from the Grid.
Ques- What is the annual maintenance for a Solar PV System?
The maintenance is not significant. Water can be used to clean the panels, nothing else is required for it.
Ques- How do I know that the Solar Power Plant is working efficiently?
Its advisable to install a Data Monitoring Device along with Solar Device that will allow you to compare the actual with estimated performance on daily, monthly & annual basis.
Ques- Which equipment can I run with Solar Energy, ie:, since its fluctuating I want to use solar energy only for certain loads?
Solar energy is integrated into LT Panel of consumer premises, & synchronization will be done with DG , Grid or the other generator source would be feeding power as of now.
Ques- Can We offer Customized Tariff as per need of the Client?
Yes, we can structure the tenure of PPA & tariff as per requirement of customer. The Solar tariff can be flat over the tenure or escalating or combination of flat & escalating any other customized tariff stream.
